I’ll Give You All My Love emanates from the traditional Land of the W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, where Heartfelt Farm stands as a sanctuary of healing and connection. Here, Katy, a Registered Art Therapist, alongside her daughters, Hannah and Sophie, cultivate profound bonds among children, animals, and the natural world. They are supported by Meagan, a Child and Youth Care Worker, and the wisdom of Elder May Sam, blending diverse modalities into a holistic, land-based approach. This series highlights the transformative interactions that bridge the lives of species through the power of love, trust, compassion and healing deeply embedded in our ecology.
At the core of this series is the unwavering mission to reacquaint children with their innate connection to nature and their natural affinity for forming relationships with all living expressions. This reawakening nurtures ecological caretaking and sparks a desire to contribute meaningfully to the world. The captured images vividly portray the ethos of Heartfelt Farm, characterized by mutual respect, reciprocity, and coexistence, and highlight the pivotal role of empathy and informed care in deepening our connection with the environment.
Katy, Hannah, and Meagan guide therapeutic sessions that integrate diverse perspectives, enriching their practice with a blend of traditional and contemporary knowledge. Meagan, of Mi’kmaq and European descent, integrates Indigenous insights into mental wellness and kinship, enriching the farm's approach. Katy, the visionary behind the farm, fosters daily activities that promote collective healing and growth. Together, the team is dedicated to fostering growth, connection, and healing, preparing for the challenges of an evolving ecological landscape.
This project deepens its exploration into the heart of existence, where the therapeutic bond between humans and animals opens doors to understanding our place in the world. The farm emerges as a microcosm of the universe's grand opus, where the love we give and receive dissolves not only the boundaries between us and the natural world but also those within our own hearts. I'll Give You All My Love becomes a testament to the possibilities of such a harmonious coexistence, where every interaction holds the potential to heal and to teach us about the unspoken bonds that unite all living beings in a complex and beautiful web of relations.

Storytelling at Heartfelt Farm doesn't always require words. For some children, communicating their innermost thoughts to animals feels safer than speaking to another human. Animals offer unconditional love and sense of support, providing a haven of emotional safety regardless of their shape—whether they are dogs or chickens.
In this aerial shot, the boy and the chickens converge through a mutual curiosity. They have not been forced together; rather, they are drawn to each other, establishing a connection based on respect rather than control. The chickens, free to wander, choose to stay, drawn by the boy’s gentle approach. This moment captures a scene where control is replaced by curiosity, creating an atmosphere where both child and birds seem to engage in a silent dialogue.
This image illustrates that when we pause gently in our interactions, animals can teach us valuable lessons. They show us how to listen deeply without interruption, maintain a gentle gaze, and collaborate in creating moments of shared understanding. Here, in the quiet whispers with the chickens, the boy learns that we are loved not for what we do, but simply for being.
-
In this tender portrait, the same young boy turns to embrace one of the chickens, symbolizing a moment of mutual trust and affection. This close-up captures the boy gently holding the chicken, a gesture that speaks volumes about the comfort and familiarity that have grown between them. The chicken, relaxed and secure in the boy's arms, reflects the deep bond that has formed through their quiet, respectful interactions.
This image showcases the progression from curiosity to trust, illustrating how relationships can evolve into heartfelt connections when nurtured with kindness and empathy. It emphasizes the boy's intuitive understanding that compassion and gentleness are key to forming lasting bonds with other beings. Just as the previous image depicted a silent dialogue of mutual respect and curiosity, this portrait highlights the resulting closeness, showing how the boy’s empathy and gentle demeanour have created a safe space for this meaningful interaction.
Here, the simple act of holding the chicken becomes a powerful testament to the emotional security that can be found in such interspecies friendships. It reminds us that true connection often lies in the quiet moments of shared presence and gentle touch.

Raised amoung horses, Hannah has developed a unique bond with them, particularly with Nosey, a chestnut thoroughbred gelding. Before finding stability at Heartfelt Farm, Nosey experienced multiple homes and the challenging environment of race training, which often starts horses at a young age, before their physical development is complete.
This image conveys more than physical closeness; it reflects a deep emotional connection between species. The challenges Nosey faced in his early years led to behaviours that indicated underlying tension, yet he remained gentle and approachable around people. Hannah’s patient and attuned care has helped him find ease and safety, allowing his true, playful nature to emerge. Her gaze in this portrait speaks volumes about her commitment to providing Nosey with the trust and security he needs.
The saying in trauma work, "the body keeps the score," resonates deeply here, highlighting Nosey's journey towards healing under Hannah's care. This phrase, coined by renowned trauma researcher Bessel Van der Kolk, underscores the profound impact of past experiences on physical and emotional health, and the potential for recovery in a nurturing environment. Through her dedication, Hannah not only ensures Nosey's well-being but also celebrates the resilience and beauty of their interspecies relationship.
-
Questioning the nature of support: who leans on whom? The answer lies in their mutual reliance. While Hannah provides for Nosey’s daily needs, Nosey reciprocates with invaluable companionship and support, showcasing the essence of a sustainable relationship.
Within the nurturing environment of Heartfelt Farm, Hannah finds a deeper sense of connection to herself, the community, and her path forward. She thrives in educating young minds about the value of genuine relationships, effective communication, body awareness, and setting healthy boundaries. This photograph beautifully illustrates the reciprocal bonds possible when we engage with openness and with a readiness to listen. Here, Hannah and Nosey exemplify the profound give-and-take fundamental to all meaningful connections.

This image captures a profound moment of expression, echoing the wisdom and traditions that are deeply rooted in the land. The stark depiction of a cry or shout emphasizes how the earth communicates its ancient stories through its caretakers. Meagan is portrayed as an essential link between worlds, channeling the land’s powerful messages through her presence and action.
This portrait honours the critical role of Indigenous Peoples who preserve and transmit the core values and voices of their communities, connecting viewers with the enduring bond between the people and their ancestral lands. The presence of ancestors in this scene emphasizes their continual guidance, underscoring that they walk with us today just as they have in the past. Their legacy encourages us to look both to the past and the future, reminding us of our responsibility to walk gently upon the earth. This image invites us to reflect on our interactions with the natural world and highlights the enduring wisdom of those who have always been, and still are, our guides.

The second image in this portrait series, titled "Source," captures a moment of profound symbolism. Meagan’s hand gently hovers over Blue Camas, a vital source of sustenance for generations of Coast Salish peoples. Her other arm, tracing the sinuous shape of a serpent, connects the earth's energy with the serpent's deep symbolism, reflecting ancient wisdom, healing, and transformation. Revered for their connections to rebirth and fertility, serpents can also symbolize the pipelines that penetrate Mother Earth to extract her resources.
This image invites us to reflect on the stark contrasts between nurturing and exploiting the earth. It encourages embracing caretaking practices, deepening our connection to the land, and promoting sustainable practices that respect and protect the natural world for future generations.

This image captures a serene moment between Meagan and her daughter, Nakoa, as they rest in a mountain meadow teeming with native flowers such as Camas, Seablush, Small-flowered Blue-eyed Mary, Broad-leaved Shooting Star, Oregon Grape, Salal, and Saxifrage. Encircling them, a forest of Grand Fir, Arbutus, and Cedars stands sentinel, providing a sense of watchful protection. In this setting, Nakoa hums a song to her mother, a beautiful expression of the generational preservation and transfer of knowledge, crucial for the sustainability and resilience of Indigenous cultures. As Nakoa echoes this knowledge, a teaching from a Coast Salish Elders resonates, "The Land loves the feet of the children," highlighting the importance of connecting children with nature and their role as future caregivers of the Earth.
Meagan, a committed mother, educator, leader, and child-care worker, skillfully blends cultural knowledge with western education in her "way of walking." She embodies deep respect for the land and its teachings, integrating these values into every aspect of her life. Her dedication to preserving her cultural heritage enriches the community and the ethos of Heartfelt Farm. This scene, filled with love, peace, and gratitude, reminds us that children are blessings and underscores the necessity of caring for Mother Earth for many generations to come.

This image features Coast Salish Elder May Sam (Malahat), a renowned and revered leader who has shared her wisdom extensively with individuals both within and outside Indigenous communities. Elder May Sam has graciously shared her knowledge, stories, and her nourishing way of being with Heartfelt Farm. Here, she is depicted weaving at a hand loom designed for the children who participate in the “Weaving Connections” program.
Elder May Sam exemplifies the resilience and continuity of Indigenous cultures, serving as a strong woman and witness on behalf of many local Indigenous nations in relation to the educational institutions on the Island. Coast Salish weaving, a tradition dating back to time immemorial, reflects resilience against colonization and cultural disruption. It illustrates the transformation and adaptation of Coast Salish weavers who initially used locally sourced materials such as cedar, nettle, bird down, feathers, lichen, raccoon and bear fur, and mountain goat wool. Deeply embedded in the spiritual, socio-economic, practical, and functional aspects of life, weavers are considered guardians of sacred knowledge, endowed by the ancestors. Despite the near erasure of this art form due to colonization and residential schools, Coast Salish weaving persists and flourishes today. It remains a crucial cultural practice, preserving knowledge, fostering economic opportunities, and educating the next generation.

What does it mean to be truly seen? Horses, with their hearts sensitive enough to feel another's heartbeat from up to ten feet away, embody a profound level of perception. As prey animals, they have evolved into keenly attuned beings, their physiology finely wired for survival. Their eyes, positioned on the sides of their heads, grant them a wide field of vision, far broader than our human capacity. This placement allows them to detect subtle movements and nuances that we might easily overlook.
This image invites us to appreciate the strength found in diverse perspectives of seeing. It highlights the horse’s expansive awareness contrasted with our more focused, direct line of sight—a trait stemming from our evolutionary role as predators. Through this dichotomous comparison, the photograph encourages us to recognize and learn from the different ways of seeing and understanding that coexist in the natural world.

Nestled beside a natural spring, sisters Hannah and Sophie share a profound moment of deep connection with their beloved animals and the elements that surround them. This scene captures the essence of peaceful coexistence, where all beings and elements blend into a harmonious tableau. It also highlights a timeless connection between women and water, evoking themes of life, renewal, and a nurturing spirit that resonate universally. The gentle interplay of natural elements with Hannah and Sophie not only underscores a nurturing and sustaining relationship but also reflects a deep, almost instinctual bond with the natural world. The tender interactions among the sisters are expressions of familial love and a reflection of their commitment to living in harmony with nature, serving as caretakers of their environment. “Sisters of the Water” invites you to step into this serene world, where the simplicity of living closely with Earth speaks to our deepest desires for peace and unity.

This image playfully hints at the balanced leadership at Heartfelt Farm. Photographed from below, it highlights a harmonious blend of feminine and masculine energies, embodying a spirit of friendship and equilibrium. Sophie, aptly named for wisdom, tenderly cradles Fleur, a rooster known for his unique gentleness, which contrasts sharply with the typically aggressive nature of his species. Since hatching as the sole survivor of his clutch, Sophie has nurtured Fleur to step into his natural ways, allowing him the space and trust to be fully himself, a gentle yet ever protective leader.
Fleur diligently guards against predators and has bravely defended his flock, notably during an incident with a Cooper's hawk that threatened a hen named Rosie. His caring nature extends to feeding times when he signals the hens to food and waits to eat last, often deferring his share. The image also celebrates the intricate beauty of Fleur’s plumage, which reflects his vibrant life force and highlights the often overlooked aesthetics of roosters, whose full plumage develops slowly and is rarely seen due to early culling.
Through their relationship, Sophie and Fleur embody a narrative of respect, nurturing leadership, and profound cross-species connections, enriching the fabric of farm life and demonstrating how mutual respect and care foster harmonious coexistence.

This image captures a touching scene between a young girl and Buttercup, one of the farm’s goats, illustrating the profound trust that emerges when we let go of expectations and fully engage in the present moment. Goats have been companions to humans for centuries, comfortably adapting to life alongside us. They instinctively seek warm, dry, sunny spots to rest and digest, endearing themselves as cherished members of farm life. When their basic needs are met, these goats are relaxed and content, always ready for human interaction and gentle connection.
Buttercup’s story is especially heartwarming. Born as a triplet at half the normal weight, her chances of thriving were slim, yet she grew into the role of caretaker of her two sisters. Her first act of caretaking came just two weeks after birth when a family friend, overwhelmed by grief after her partner was paralyzed in an accident, found comfort in Buttercup's presence. Little Butter, as she is affectionately called, wandered into the friends arms without any external encouragement and fell asleep, her gentle breathing and the sweet scent of goats' milk providing a moment of solace. This early encounter highlighted her innate ability to bring comfort and calm to those around her, a trait that continues to define her interactions. Buttercup consistently offers a grounded sense of comfort and safety, proving herself a true security blanket to all she meets.

In this image, Sophie shares an intimate moment with her two hens, Magnolia (Maggie) and Mossy. As a landscape designer, Sophie's deep connection to the natural world is not only professional but profoundly personal. Her work is informed by a lifetime of learning about and interacting with the land in ways that embrace the often overlooked intricacies of nature.
At Heartfelt Farm, Sophie leverages her creativity and expertise to craft art and nature programs for children in the community. These programs are designed to forge connections with Nature, instilling a love for its details and a desire to care for each entity found within the fold of its many layers. She encourages visitors to the farm to engage with the smaller, subtler aspects of Nature— to attune to their significance, fall in love with their beauty, and learn to care deeply for them. Inspired by the teachings of Robin Wall Kimmerer, Sophie believes that when you love something, you will care for it, and it is this philosophy to which she desires to gently embed in the future generations through her offerings at the farm.
The moment captured in this image embodies this philosophy beautifully, making the intangible values of attunement, love, and care for nature palpably visible.

This image captures Sophie as she attentively feeds the chickens and rooster at Heartfelt Farm. This daily act of care is a reflection of the vision her mother passionately shared with her and her sister Hannah from a young age. Inspired by their mother’s dream of a sanctuary that harmonizes life for both humans and animals, Sophie's routine embodies the principles of nurture and sustained growth that are central to the farm's ethos.
Heartfelt Farm was realized in 2018, born from their mother's resilience and visionary spirit. Despite the challenges of raising a family, returning to school, and opening her practice, Katy nurtured this dream into existence. Today, Sophie, alongside her family, continues to expand this vision, ensuring that each day spent on the farm enriches the community, supports personal development, and strengthens their connection to the Earth.
The practice of feeding the chickens is not merely a chore but a symbol of the family’s dedication to the wellbeing of every creature in their care. It mirrors the legacy of care and commitment instilled by their mother and is a daily testament to the farm being a true home of healing. "Daily Nourishment" thus represents more than the physical sustenance provided to the animals; it reflects the nurturing of a dream that feeds the soul of the community and all who find refuge at Heartfelt Farm.

This image presents a simple yet evocative portrait of Katy, the founder of Heartfelt Farm, alongside her horse, Spirit. Spirit has been integral to Katy’s work in Equine Facilitated Wellness since the farm's inception, known for his clear communication, courage, and deep intelligence, essential in the healing processes at the farm.
Katy's journey to establishing Heartfelt Farm was marked by both immense challenges and significant triumphs. Drawing inspiration from her childhood filled with animals and the natural world, she envisioned the farm as a sanctuary where children and animals could find solace, kinship, and belonging. This place would allow them to show their true selves in a supportive environment, promoting healing and growth. Her unrelenting determination to realize this vision despite life’s hard frosts has made the eventual flourishing of Heartfelt Farm all the more rewarding.
Many of the animals at Heartfelt Farm, including Spirit, were rescued from unsafe conditions. Katy notes, “They are rescues no more, for as the animals help the children heal, they too heal themselves. What we do for one, we do for the many.” This ethos encapsulates the spirit of Heartfelt Farm, where every interaction has the potential to nurture both giver and receiver, enriching the fabric of farm life and demonstrating how mutual respect and care foster a harmonious coexistence.
